iWalk Day on Wednesday!

International Walk to School Day is on Wednesday, October 7.  Observed all over the world, this celebrates walking to school!  Even if you don't normally walk to school, try to on iWalk Day- join a Walking School Bus or just walk on your own.  It's a blast, and your Bee might just love it.

On October 7, we will have some additional festivities on the playground before school to celebrate lots of walking bees!  When you arrive at school, look for the table on the playground near the middle set of doors.  We'll have hand stamps and a bubble machine.

We'll have one Walking School Bus running (see map) and encourage you to jump on it or walk yourself!

iWalk Day tomorrow - Wed, 10/8

Lace up your sneakers and get ready to walk to school tomorrow - even if you don't usually.  It's a great day to give it a try.

Our regular walking school buses (see map below) are doing an extra run this Wednesday - normally, they run every Friday.  If you're not on one of those routes, just walk yourself.

All walkers and bikers should check in at the table on the playground before the first bell.  You'll find us near the middle set of doors.  We'll have handstamps for kids and lots of bubbles and chalk.

Email Brooke Doyle with questions (brookedoyleATyahoo.com).

Happy Walking!

Let's Move is back in 2012-2013!

Let's Move, Bagley!

We're back in 2012, and are looking forward to another successful year of Moving on Friday mornings.  Last year more than 1/3 of the students participated in the Let's Move programs:
  • Walking School Bus routes are back
  • Kids can walk the track to earn points for the coveted Golden Sneakers (starting in October)
  • Celebrate walking and biking to school with hundreds of other countries on International Walk to School Day on October 3
... but we need volunteers!  Please email Amy or Brooke if you can help with any of these EASY jobs.

Walking School Bus
There are two active routes on the map: http://goo.gl/maps/ZkaX5 (one from the south, starting near the Phinney Center; one from the northeast, down Wallingford and across 88th).

We are looking for more route leaders!  If you walk from the east (Starbucks area) or the north (Greenwood Park), let us know if you can help.

Walk the Track
Can you help count laps one Friday each month on the Bagley track?
Are you able to tally the totals and distribute charms (or other incentives) once each month?

Walk to School Day
Do you have time to help out on October 3 for iWalk Day/Let's Move kickoff?  We'll have groups walking together, track walking, and hand stamps for all participants.

Seattle Kids' Marathon
Are you interested in finding out how we can incorporate the Kids' Marathon into Let's Move?  We'd love to coordinate.

New Bike Racks and other improvements
Can you help prepare an easy grant application for pedestrian and cyclist improvements at school?  We'll be writing this in October, and will need people to tally # bikes each day for a week or two.
